What’s Special About Douglas Fir and Western Red Cedar?

Both provide beauty, durability and value to the interior and exterior of your home and projects

Douglas Fir

Douglas Fir is grown and harvested in the Pacific Northwest. These enormous conifers can grow to a height of 200’.

Western Red Cedar

Western Red Cedar comes primarily from the temperate rain forests of British Columbia. They can grow to 200’ with a large, buttressed base. Western Red Cedar trees are culturally significant to First Nations people who refer to it as the tree of life.

The wood of both species is extremely rot and insect resistant and are ideal for outside applications.

To ensure that your investment is protected, Welco craftsmen suggest that you paint, stain, or clearcoat your material prior to installation. Treating all four sides and the ends of the material is the best practice.

Welco also recommends that you invest in an exterminator to treat for carpenter bees. It is a small expense compared to the cost of a repair.
